Connecting with God at Beaumont Commons
A long-time worship outreach becomes a new ministry for Dearborn First UMC
by Marti Boynton Tamaroglio
Dearborn First UMC Office Administrator and Beaumont Commons - Dearborn worship leader
About 10 years ago, the Spiritual Director of Oakwood Common (now Beaumont Commons - Dearborn) approached the leaders of Good Shepherd UMC, where I was a member at the time, about participating in their monthly worship service, led by local pastors on a rotating basis.
I offered to cover every month, since pastoral coverage was inconsistent.
That offer was accepted as a wonderful gift!
After a couple of years, we were asked to add a second Sunday each month, too… and a few years later, every Sunday! It has mushroomed!
Each Sunday, we gather for worship which includes hymns, scriptures, prayer, message, and Holy Communion. We have moved from one room to another over the years, but have landed most recently in the Rotunda Room, so there is plenty of room for all of us. Our worshiping group varies from 12 to 40 people, depending on who is in town, who is well, who is still mobile…
They are troupers, and are just so loving and caring! I am honored to be able to serve as their Chaplain.
I came to work as office administrator at Dearborn First UMC and then transferred my membership from Good Shepherd UMC. That was when Oakwood Common Community Congregation, (now updated to Beaumont Common Community Congregation), became the “Soul Ministry” of Dearborn First UMC!
With the loosening of COVID restrictions, we are now back in worship together at Beaumont Commons - Dearborn every Sunday and we are ecstatic!
Worship services are provided for Beaumont Commons - Dearborn residents and their guests. If you know somebody who fits this group, please spread the word and encourage them to worship with us!
