You're invited to Dearborn First UMC's weekly Lenten Author Series each Sunday through Lent at 11:30 a.m. via Zoom.
Get to know six different authors and their work. Each author will share an excerpt from their books and participate in a Q & A.
On March 7, the featured author is Rev. Dr. Donna Fowler-Marchant.
Donna is from a very small town in North Carolina where she grew up Baptist, and attended Meredith College, a four-year women's college, earning a B.A. in Religion. She then entered Duke Divinity School where she pursued the M.Div., and Th.M. degrees, and was ordained in 1992 at a Baptist church.
During that time, Donna became aware that her theology was actually deeply Wesleyan. She began serving a two-point charge in rural North Carolina in 1996 and became a United Methodist elder in the NC Annual Conference in 1999. She served as associate at a large UM church for several years and then served smaller churches around Fayetteville, NC. During this time, she received the D.Min. degree from Wesley Theological Seminary, creating a doctoral project entitled Fire in Our Bones: Clergywomen Faithful to the Divine Call.
For 8 years, Donna served as the Minister of Pastoral Care at a large Presbyterian church and ironically, during that time, rediscovered her passion for early Methodist history after going on a Wesley pilgrimage in 2016. She then spent a sabbatical in the UK in 2017, researching her topic at the John Rylands Library in Manchester. As her research continued, Donna began to write a bit but only became really motivated after speaking with someone at GBHEM who helped narrow her focus and provided the structure she needed in order to finish writing the book.
In August 2020 Donna moved to Watford, England and began serving in the West Hertfordshire and Borders Circuit of the Methodist Church in Britain.
Donna is married to Scott Marchant, an electrical engineer with Goodyear, and the couple has two adult children whom theyadopted from Russia, Sergei and Natasha.
Donna loves reading, traveling abroad, trying new types of food (preferably cooked by someone else), writing, and listening to all kinds of music.
All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP for the Zoom link, which will be sent to your email closer to the event start date.
