Covenant of Water
by Abraham Verghese

An Oprah Book Club selection about three generations of an Indian family on the Malabar coast.  It is a new book, published in May, 2023 that is listed as an instant New York Times bestseller.  This is the first title of the season because it is 775 pages!  It is available at the Dearborn Public Library in book form, eBook, eAudio Book. Available on Amazon in hardcover and on Kindle.

The Only Woman in the Room
by Marie Benedict

An historical fiction account of the life of Hedy Lamarr, star of the Golden Screen and the inventor of Wi-Fi!  This comes highly recommended, and is available as a book club kit from the Dearborn Public Library.  I will be glad to borrow it for the group and have copies available at the September meeting.  It is also available through Amazon, on Kindle and in paperback.

Dead Awake
by Erik Larson

A non-fiction account of the sinking of the Lusitania that alternates between the English and the German viewpoints.

Based on the life of Hannah Elias, a Black woman who made a name for herself in real estate in early 19th century New York.  It is available through the Dearborn Public Library on eBook and eAudio or through Amazon on Kindle and hardcover.  It may also be available in paperback by the end of the year….keep checking!

Olga Dies Dreaming
by Xochitl Gonzalez

A funny, stirring story about a Puerto Rican family in Brooklyn whose lives are disrupted by Hurricane Maria.  It is available in hardcover at the Dearborn Public Library and on Kindle and hardcover through Amazon.  This might be available in paperback by the time we read it.
