A Night of Art & Protest

Thursday, March 12 @ 7 p.m.
Thursday, March 26 @ 7 p.m.
Dearborn First UMC, 22124 Garrison St.

Come experience an evening of justice-seeking through a variety of art forms: visual art, music, storytelling, and poetry - maybe even cross-cultural culinary arts for the afterglow! These events will focus on the need to organize, find your voice, your method of expression, and your place in the long marathon to building a community of peace and justice.

Featured Artists:

Recruitment of contributing artists is now underway. There’s still room for creatives of all kinds, especially Visual Artists (fine arts, graphic arts, needle arts, photography, etc.).

If you’d like to participate, or know somebody who would, contact Pastor Suzy: pastor@DearbornFirstUMC.org

Join the Community Chorus performing at the event:

Singers from the community are invited to join in performing a piece entitled “Light, Surround Them” written by Becky Sun, a resident of Minneapolis, dedicated “to those safeguarding our communities through nonviolent resistance, and for all those who have been stolen from our cities and towns.”

Rehearsal will take place Thursday, March 12 at 5:45 p.m., just prior to the event

CONTACT Bob Barnhart, DFUMC Music Director, to sign up and to receive the music in advance:

Music@DearbornFirstUMC.org or bbarnhart2@att.net
Or call the church office: 313-563-5200, ext. 0

ADDITIONAL EVENT INFORMATION:

  • Enter via the doors off the parking lot, at the rear of the building.

  • Free and Accessible Parking: in the lot behind the church (driveways on Morley and Garrison Streets), at the curb or in the city lot on Garrison Street.

Do you have art to share?

There is still room on the docket for more artists to participate! We invite artists, musicians, writers, dancers, and creators of all types (even culinary!) to contribute their work on themes of immigration, protest, or other social justice issues for this, or for future events. Activist and socially conscious art of all forms is encouraged—visual, musical, poetic, multimedia, or even dance and movement.

For more information or to inquire about contributing art or performance pieces, please contact Pastor Suzy or Jeff Karoub

OR BRING YOUR OWN PROTEST SIGN - THAT’S ART TOO!

Bring them to the church office by March 11 so we can put this creative expression of protest on display!
