FROM LAKE LOUISE PROGRAM DIRECTOR GREG:
Greetings from Lake Louise!
We are very excited to be hosting a youth retreat. Right now, 25 young people have said they are coming, so it should be a great time. I have an update about lodging to share.
The youth will be staying in our lodges. Since the beds typically have linens during our retreat season, we decided to provide those along with towels to everyone. They won’t have to pack bedding (unless they have a special pillow or blanket) or towels. All they need is their bathroom gear and clothing. Each lodge has two sleeping areas with attached bathrooms. One lodge will be used for girls and one for boys and we’ll probably use the gathering rooms in both for activities.
Meals will be eaten in our dining hall which is in a separate building we call the Retreat Center. These will be taken with adults who lead youth ministries at their own churches. Some of these leaders are bringing youth with them and some are coming for personal training and renewal.
The retreat begins at 7pm Friday with a pizza feast and wraps up at 11am Sunday. Rev. Carl Gladstone of Dearborn UMC is leading the youth retreat and recruiting chaperones. Your kids will be in good hands for the weekend.
They can expect to have times for fun and fellowship, times for worship (often with the youth leaders on retreat), crafts, learning and maybe something for the benefit of others.
Thanks for sharing your dietary needs as part of the registration. We will do everything we can to provide the kinds of foods that are good for their bodies. If you need to make a change, please let me know. Also, although everyone will be responsible for their own medications (we won’t have a camp nurse), let me know if there are significant health issues to share with the retreat leaders.
The weather in November here can vary from pleasant to cold and from rainy to dry to possibly even a little snow, so they should pack for all kinds of conditions. Sturdy shoes are a good idea.
If you haven’t been here before, Lake Louise is located at 11037 Thumb Lake Road between Boyne Falls and Vanderbilt. From I-75 (northbound or southbound), take exit 290 from I-75 and head away from Vanderbilt on Old 27. Turn left by the Red Wing corner store and Whippy Dip on Thumb Lake Road and drive about 4 miles until you see our sign. From US-131, turn onto Thumb Lake Road just north of Boyne Falls by the Dollar General and drive about 7 miles. The lodges are in the middle of camp past the office, so follow the signs to the office and we’ll watch for you.
If you need to reach me, you can email glawton@lakelouisecommunity.org or call me at 231-549-2728. After business hours, call me at 269-317-7183.
