Ash Wednesday Worship Service
Wednesday, February 18, 7 p.m.
Pastor Suzy Todd, officiating

On Ash Wednesday, we mark the beginning of Lent and come before God, repenting our sin, recognizing our mortality, and acknowledging that Jesus triumphed over both for us through his death and resurrection.

Imposition of Ashes: Congregants come forward and receive a cross on forehead or hand as an outward sign of our humanity, and humble repentance of our sins before God and each other.

Public Witness: This will be a service of  witness to our personal sin and to our communal failure to protect our neighbors from the oppression of persecution and deportation. Participants come forward and nail tags to the cross, representing the thousands of lives detained or lost during encounters with ICE. The cross will be brought outside where it will stand within a small fence as a reminder through Easter Sunday. Throughout that time, the public will be invited to tie fabric strips to the fence, in solidarity with those who face injustice.

Children and youth are invited to take part and are welcome! A Creator Kid space is available in the sanctuary for children who may need to worship in a different way, outside the pew. Parents can accompany them in the space to continue family worship together.

Due to the participative nature of the service, livestream may not be available.
