About the piece:

Composer and Minneapolis resident, Becky Sun, posted this on her Facebook page:

“I live in Minneapolis. To deal with this month’s heartbreaking events, I wrote a choral anthem based on Richard Bruxvoort Colligan’s lorica (protection prayer) “O Christ, Surround Me.” This version, “Light, Surround Them” (SATB + piano and opt. cell) is dedicated to all those who are safeguarding our communities with nonviolent resistance, and for all those who have been stolen from our cities and towns. (I graciously received permission from Colligan to use and adapt his lyrics.)”

A Night of Art and Protest is an evening of justice-seeking through a variety of art forms: visual art, music, storytelling, and poetry - maybe even cross-cultural culinary arts for the afterglow! These events will focus on the need to organize, find your voice, your method of expression, and your place in the long marathon to building a community of peace and justice.

ADDITIONAL EVENT INFORMATION:

  • Enter via the doors off the parking lot, at the rear of the building.

  • Free and Accessible Parking: in the lot behind the church (driveways on Morley and Garrison Streets), at the curb or in the city lot on Garrison Street.

  • Barrier-Free access (wheelchair parking and lift)

  • Barrier-Free and gender-neutral restrooms

Do you have art to share?

There is still room on the docket for more artists to participate! We invite artists, musicians, writers, dancers, and creators of all types (even culinary!) to contribute their work on themes of immigration, protest, or other social justice issues for this, or for future events. Activist and socially conscious art of all forms is encouraged—visual, musical, poetic, multimedia, or even dance and movement.

For more information or to inquire about contributing art or performance pieces, please contact Pastor Suzy or Jeff Karoub

OR BRING YOUR OWN PROTEST SIGN - THAT’S ART TOO!

Bring them to the church office by March 11 so we can put this creative expression of protest on display!
