March as a group in the parade on Sunday!
Sunday, June 8: Parade starts at noon; Line up at staging area by 11:30 a.m.
Central UMC is registered to march as a group in the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 8th. Please plan for a walk that is about several blocks from a parking structure to the parade staging area and then the parade route is about 1 mile.
The church group has been assigned lane 7 which is on Fort St., and we should enter that area from Shelby Street. Central UMC organizers will head down there earlier with a couple of people to find our spot in line.
As for parking, there's a Tigers' game at 1:40 and the Central UMC lot will likely be completely full from church attendance and people going to the game. Look for parking lots and structures to the west of the parade route (which goes down Griswold St). There's a number of parking lots along Fort St or Lafayette Blvd. The parade starts at noon, but our section of the parade is not expected to start moving until at least 1pm.
What about Sunday worship at Dearborn First UMC?
The worship service at Dearborn First UMC will be a shorter, yet meaningful format (New members, Communion, Pentecost!), allowing time for people to get to the parade, should they wish to participate and/or watch.
